Out of High School I went straight into the Military. I was not a jock but very active in water sports such as surfing, water skiing and diving. At 6 Ft 6 inches tall I weighed in at 215 lbs and cut like a knife. being on in or around the water was my life and I did allot of it. Like most men in my 20's I was at the prime of my physical life. Eating was a burden as I had to first afford it, Prepare it, then take the time to consume it. There were many days that I just ate what ever passed my way just to keep the lights on. My metabolism was Jammin and food was just a fuel. I needed to be lean for all my water passion. Weight gain was not even a concern.
At 25 I had a bit of a set back. I was attacked by a mean assed barracuda while diving where I lived in the Florida Keys. This certainly curtailed my physical activities as I convelessed from nearly having my leg tore off. My life suddenly changed.. Every man has that point in his life where he realizes he is human and not indestructable. This was that pivotol moment for me.
After my accident I could still skate, dive and run but indoor activity was a new thing and I liked it. Playing on the computer building web sites, exploring the internet and playiong video games were entertaining and my out door activities took a back seat. I decided to use my computer skills to improve my fishing charter buisness.
Work became more important than play as I was fast tracking to be the next great fishig guide of Key West. Making great money in comparrison to my early 20's and also settling down with long term girlfriends and eventually getting married the first time at 30. Meals were becomming more consistent as now I did not even need to prepare them, just show up for it. Eating out was becomming a sport and the menu was a selection of what would feed me the most. Being married also halted the need to be out till 4 am hunting for the next girlfriend and trying to maintain a job.
Can you see the trend.. Less activity and more fuel.. means I was going to be the next fat guy.
I hit my fat peak at about 32 years old when my first wife took off. I was well over 280 and very unhealthy. I rebounded from this with a few months of bachelorhood. (see early 20's) I hit the gym (mostly to meet women) and started to trim back down with an unsteady diet (starvation) and rigorous exercise. I looked better but still felt like crap.
I was looking pretty good, low and behold the time at the gym paid off. I met my newest and current wife while riding the eliptical, she thought I had Tom Selek legs.. LOL. anyway the rest is history with her and I and that was 10 years ago from the date I am writing this. We dated a while, she moved in, (did I say she is Italian?) She cooks really well, loves to grocery shop, loves to eat out - are you seeing the trend here? Back to 260 in no time. It was ugly. I ate every time I turned around. Oh, and stopped going to the gym. I mean, What for? I was in a race to see just how big I could get.
I bounced back and forth between 260 and 285 depending on season and work. At 37 I quit smoking what little I smoked occasionally, then at 38 I went a full year without Cafiene (dont EVER try that). I was on a path of getting healthier as I knew 40 was just around the corner. Just 15 years ago I was dropping in on 5 - 8 ft surf and looking like a pro, now I could hardly walk the block around my house. I knew I needed to do somthing.
Back problems were kiling me, my ankles hurt, knees were sore I was a mess. Gennifer (mywife) helped me go omn the South Beach diet. She did it with me. She only needed to lose a few pounds. I lost a quick 20 lbs here and felt like crap. it seemed like weeks after I was back to 280.The whole carb with drawl thing was not for me
Losing the weight was becommimng a huge issue till I got on track with this weight loss program. It all happened when I was at my heaviest and met with an old fly fishing client of mine that I had not seen in years. I barely recognized him and immediately I told him, what did you do, how do I do it and when can I start? See, my friend was HUGE, he had at least 80 lbs to lose and was only 5 and a half feet tall. How did he lose the weight? well, that's what this web site is about.
Skeptical
It took me a while to jump on board with my old friends weight loss program. I had to study it and flip it over and jump up and down on it to make sure I would not be hurting myself like so many of these Fad Diet programs can do. I wanted to avoid bad chemicals, pills, hard core exercise training and just plain bad deals. I researched it all over the internet and could not find anything wrong with the weight loss plan he was showing me. I spoke to doctors and all of them favored it. My mind was set. I had to do something and this was going to be it.
Living The Dream
I started my weight loss journey on Dec 26th of 2008 and in one month I lost 30 lbs and I feel fantastic! The first three days were tough but after that it was all coasting my way into a new found life with more benefits than I can tell you. With not nearly as much as I had to lose my wife started her weight loss journey with me on January 4th. She has not looked this good since she was in her early 20's just after 3 weeks her skin looked healthier and she is happier.. We both feel like we have found the fountain of youth. We love how we feel and we are experiencing a great new life with better attitudes, energy and more things to do. What's more, we are not attached to the kitchen pantry and we don't miss a thing.
I am excited
Since I have started and seen some dramatic results in myself in so many ways.. I decided to let everyone know about it. I have been looking for a way to help people in some way, This has become it. I became a certified Health coach and advisor in order to share with folks in a personal and attentive way how to help themselves to better health.
